ALISTER Bailey returned to form to win Playgolf Colchester's fourth club championship qualifier in superb course conditions.

Bailey (11) produced a superb performance with his four under nett 66 (gross 77) to see off a large field and win division one.

He carded 12 pars with a two-over gross back nine to win ahead of runner-up Jack Moutell (eight) who finished second on countback.

Moutell was one of a trio of players on nett 67, with Jack Blackman (nine) finishing third ahead of Darren Kerr (seven), who recorded the division's lowest gross of 74.

Moutell had round highlights of 13 pars, with nothing worse than bogey on his card.

Blackman carded seven pars and a trio of birdies, including a par-three birdie on the third hole and a pair of par four birdies on the eight and 18th holes, helping with his countback score.

Kerr’s lowest gross round of 74 included a superb 14 pars and four bogies, with a brace on the front and back nine respectively.

Roger Giles (20) won division two with a nett 66 which included a trio of pars and a par four birdies on the tricky 13th.

Ron Gilzean (13) carded the division’s lowest-gross score of 80 (nett 67) to finish second with a creditable seven pars.

However, his round went out with a bang with birdie on the par-four 18th to clinch runner-up spot.

Martin Kilbey (13) carded a nett 68 to finish third with card highlights of six pars and a brace of par-three birdies on the third and 13th holes.

Matthew Whymark (27) won division three with the only sub-par round in the division, a nett 69.

Derek Loughran (28) won a countback decision from bang-in-form junior, Harry English (21).

English finished the weekend with a three shot handicap-cut, to play in division two next time out.

This came after amassing an amazing ten-under par 46 points in the members swindle.

That earned English an outstanding cut to go with his other excellent recent rounds and he will now play off 18 in his next round of golf.

The Bob Goff Trophy was contested by a good-sized field of seniors in good conditions.

Geoffrey Backhouse won with his round of 39 points ahead of runner-up Peter Saye, who took a countback decision from Len Cole after both carded 37 points.

Carol Farrance won division one of the June ladies stableford with 35 points, beating Kyung Cho by four points.

Cho carded 31 points for second place a point ahead of third-placed Gina Macmillan while division two was won by Emma Rowe.
