STANWAY ROVERS boss Angelo Harrop has sung the praises of the club’s “outstanding” end-of-season award winners.

Craig Hughes scooped the manager’s prize, while Jack Cawley was named supporters’ player and goalkeeper Nick Punter won the players’ award at Saturday’s event.

Antonio Sabini was named young player-of-the-year.

Harrop reflected on a highly-successful season, in which the club finished third in the Thurlow Nunn League premier division and only lost four matches – with the last of those coming way back in October.

“Craig has been absolutely outstanding all season,” said Harrop.

“He was one of our most consistent players who scored big goals in vital matches.

“That’s a sign of his quality – he always steps up and delivers when we need him most.

“Jack had a really tough end to the season, in terms of his personal life.

“However, he still turned up every week and gave his absolute all.

“He’s got unbelievable ability and he was second choice for my manager’s award.

“Nick has been within our top-three performers in every game and was outstanding.”

Harrop is looking forward to a well-earned breather after the exertions of last season.

“I’m going to have a few weeks off and am looking forward to a rest, to recharge my batteries after what’s been a long, hard but successful season,” he said.

“After that I’ll sit down with the chairman and talk about next year. We’ll see what the future holds.”

Harrop hopes to keep his squad intact for next season.

“I’m going to give them a bit of time off,” he said.

“The players know what we offer here and they all love it, which shows in their work-rate.

“Hopefully we’ll keep the squad together, in addition to making a couple of new signing, although I’m realistic.

“When you do so well, your players are always going to attract interest from elsewhere.”
