ADRIAN Binns claimed a fine three-shot victory at Playgolf Colchester's All Winners Cup.

He carded a nett 70 to win the event, where last year's club competition winners did battle in superb conditions in a limited field.

Binns' (ten) card highlights included a creditable 11 pars, including a superb run of seven on the trot in the middle of his round.

Second and third needed countback to separate four players, who all scored nett 73.

Ron Gilzean (13) was runner-up followed closely by Dave Defreitas (14), after both had good back nines.

This left single figure golfers Darren Kerr (seven) and Rob Wareing (six) out in fourth and fifth place.

The pair joined the list of players who were not up to the challenge with the short stick on day with the slick greens.

There were again some challenging pin positions set, that were only for the brave.

A high degree of accuracy is required for some approach shots, as if you leave the ball above the hole or miss the green altogether, you can be left with an extremely difficult time getting up an down.

Calum McKenzie (13) stormed Playgolf's Also Ran Shield with an outstanding card of 42 points seeing him earn a deserved cut to 12.

Tom English (7) also earned a shot cut with another sub-par round of 38 points to finish second, a point ahead of third-placed Peter Quilty (19).

Jim Greenfield recorded 36 points to win division one of the seniors' stableford.

Tony Millington was second (33pts) from David Ruxton (32pts).

Bob Price won division two with 36 points from Robert Few (31pts), who finished ahead of John Curd on countback.

Lucy Sadler earned a shot handicap cut after carding a one-under CSS (Competition Scratch Score) nett 72, to take victory in division one of the Ladies April Medal competition.

Liz Schultz was runner-up, five shots adrift on nett 77 with Kyung Cho a further two shots off the pace in third.

Janet Blackmore won division two with a nett 84 to win, ahead of Maureen Dale.

Playgolf pairing Ann Longman and Nicky Withycombe recorded a superb home victory, in their Daily Mail foursomes second-round tie.

They won 5&4 against Colchester GC Ladies duo Sheila Dornan and Linda Freeman.
