THE Coastal Storms Netball Academy has celebrated its first anniversary – and continues to go from strength to strength.

In their first year, Storms have introduced netball to more than 400 juniors, both girls and boys, organised primary school and adult tournaments, held holiday camps and gone into schools to coach.

Head coach Faye Trigg says it has been an “extremely rewarding” 12 months.

“I’m thrilled we’ve been able to sustain the club for over a year now,” she said.

“It’s been a challenge but extremely rewarding, at the same time.

“The academy is going from strength to strength and we welcome new players, of all ages and abilities.”

Meanwhile, one of the academy’s most versatile players, Katie Black, is close to completing her Beginners’ Umpire Award. She has dedicated many hours to assisting the younger players at the club, in addition to umpiring in tournaments and even a teachers’ match at her school.

She was selected to volunteer for the England v Australia Test Series match at the Copper Box, in London.

She was one of the ball girls and held the Australian flag.

“We’d like to congratulate her on all her of achievements, enthusiasm and passion for the game and wish her the very best of luck with other volunteer opportunities and her netball pathway,” added Trigg, who is also one of the Essex County Academy coaches.

Coastal Storms are always looking for new players and sponsorships.

They train on Monday evenings at Tendring Education Centre, in Jaywick Lane, Clacton.

Schools years three to seven train from 6pm until 7pm and school years eight up to ladies from 7pm until 8pm.

Sessions cost £3.
