Alex Lynn made an impressive start to life in GP2 as he sealed third spot in his first-ever qualifying session in Bahrain.

The 21-year-old racing driver from Dunmow will start tomorrow's feature event at the Sakhir circuit on the second row of the grid behind the ART Racing pairing of Stoffel Vandoorne and Nobuharu Matsushita.

It is the first round of the 2015 GP2 season and marks a step up for Lynn, who comes into it as the reigning GP3 champion, but he showed no sign of being a rookie driver as he made an immediate impact on the timing sheets.

Having been third quickest in the morning free practice session, the DAMS Racing driver finished qualifying in the same position under the lights in Bahrain, 0.362 seconds behind pole sitter Vandoorne.

The Belgian and Lynn will be split on tomorrow's grid by Japan's Matsushita, who was just 0.054 seconds quicker than the Essex man around the Sakhir circuit.

As well as his GP2 commitments with the DAMS Racing team, Lynn is also the Williams Martini Formula One team's development driver and his performance in Bahrain will have impressed watching F1 bosses on his first-ever outing in GP2.

Tomorrow's 32-lap feature race is due to start at Sakhir at 11.10am (British time), with race two taking place at 12.15pm on Sunday.
