THERE were clear winners of the team better-ball competition, played on Playgolf Colchester’s juniors day.

The team of Stephen Allan, David Gooding and Nick Smith carded an impressive 83 points to claim victory.

A strong wind made club selection tricky for a good-sized field at the event, where two scores from each team counted on each hole.

But there were nevertheless some good scores recorded and Allan, Gooding and Smith impressed to win by six points.

The second and third-placed teams needed countback to separate them.

The team of Richard Swindells, Richard Frost and Nathan Soton were runners-up, after both teams carded 77 points.

They had a better countback score from Brian Banks, Sam Durrant and Howard Banham.

The total donations of nearly £100 raised will go towards running Playgolf Colchester’s junior section.

Playgolf Colchester’s Pete Brown Memorial Golf Day was well attended. The competition was a full handicap stableford, with the top three all scoring well.

Event organiser John Frost was third, with 38 points.

The day took place in honour of long-term Playgolf Colchester member Pete Brown, who recently died.

It helped raise funds for a bench and commemorative plaque for the course, along with the Essex Air Ambulance.

The event attracted a good turnout comprising of members and friends alike, who played a round of golf in Pete’s memory.
