Josh Thompson has left Colchester United and signed for League Two side Tranmere Rovers on a permanent basis.
Thompson, who has been on loan at Prenton Park since last October, had his U's contract cancelled by mutual consent and has now sealed a switch to Micky Adams' side.
Thompson joined Colchester from Portsmouth in November 2012, initially on loan.
The 23-year-old made 23 league and cup appearances for Colchester but his time at the U's was hampered by injuries.
Thompson's last competitive game for Colchester came in a Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie at Dagenham and Redbridge in September, 2013.
