Witham Town bowed out of the Robert Dyas League Cup after a penalty shootout against AFC Sudbury at the Village Glass Stadium.
Ryman League premier division side Witham and their division one north opponents were tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes of the third-round tie so it went to a shoot-out that the Suffolk side won 4-3.
After the first-half ended goalless, Kris Newby put Sudbury ahead in the 52nd minute when he fired home a penalty against his former club, but Vinnie Durrant levelled the game in the 72nd minute on his Town debut after joining from Bowers and Pitsea.
That was how the game stayed and the penalty shootout ensued but there was to be no progress for Witham, who will now only have their premier division survival fight to focus on.
