Braintree Town striker Sean Marks insists that the disappointment of their narrow league defeat by Forest Green Rovers won’t knock their renewed confidence that was built up by a strong run over Christmas and New Year.

Marks scored the Iron’s equaliser in their Vanarama Conference Premier clash against Rovers on Saturday, but the visitors hit straight back with what proved to be a late winning goal from Jon Parkin.

It was a blow in a game that Braintree had deserved to get something out of, but Marks, who returned to action for the game after an ankle injury, felt it wouldn’t be something that knocked them ahead of their big FA Trophy game against Ebbsfleet United today.

Marks said: “The boys were a bit upset as we could have won the (Forest Green) game, but it was one of those where we didn’t take our chances.

“They took their two clear-cut ones and that was it, but the boys played well and on another day we’d have won it.

“Last year we had that big run and during that run we were finishing chances and picking up three points, but it’s probably just fine lines at the minute.

“To be fair, though, we’ve had a good run and we’re playing well.

“It’s just some games where losses haven’t being turned into draws and draws into wins, but we’ll get there.

“The confidence is back within the team and the odd results won’t hit that confidence.

“We will be going into the next game feeling we can win."
