Colchester United have moved quickly to fill the gap left by Magnus Okuonghae's injury by signing Birmingham City defender Will Packwood on loan.

The USA under-23 international, who has progressed through the Blues' academy, has joined the U's who have been left short of cover in central defence following injuries to Okuonghae, Frankie Kent and Josh Thompson.

Packwood, 21, who was born in Massachusetts, has made 17 senior appearances for Birmingham since making his senior debut for them in 2011.

He also spent time on loan at Bristol Rovers last season, where he made eight appearances.

Packwood has signed for the U's initially until January 1 and is available for their trip to play MK Dons on Saturday.
