Colchester Harriers’ Marie Shirley came seconds away from beating the elusive three-hour barrier at the Berlin Marathon.
She ran a cracker of a race and was desperately close to getting the required time, after clocking three hours 22 seconds.
She came fewer then a second a mile short of her goal in finishing as 46th lady in Berlin, where the world record was set at 2h 02m 57s.
