Josh Thompson is winning his race to be fit to face his former club Portsmouth.
And the Colchester United centre-back would like nothing more than to return from Fratton Park with three precious points, this weekend.
Thompson hopes to shrug off an ankle injury so he can return to Pompey on Saturday, less than three months after leaving them for the U’s.
The 21-year-old spent just six weeks at crisis club Portsmouth before joining Colchester last November, initially on loan.
And ahead of his return to the south coast, the defender said all he is focused on is helping Colchester secure a crucial win in their quest for survival.
He said: “I’m training this morning and I’m confident of being fit for Saturday."
