U's defender Thompson confident of Pompey return

Clacton and Frinton Gazette: Hopeful - Josh Thompson will return to training today following the ankle injury he suffered against Walsall. Hopeful - Josh Thompson will return to training today following the ankle injury he suffered against Walsall.

Josh Thompson is winning his race to be fit to face his former club Portsmouth.

And the Colchester United centre-back would like nothing more than to return from Fratton Park with three precious points, this weekend.

Thompson hopes to shrug off an ankle injury so he can return to Pompey on Saturday, less than three months after leaving them for the U’s.

The 21-year-old spent just six weeks at crisis club Portsmouth before joining Colchester last November, initially on loan.

And ahead of his return to the south coast, the defender said all he is focused on is helping Colchester secure a crucial win in their quest for survival.

He said: “I’m training this morning and I’m confident of being fit for Saturday."

See Thursday's Gazette for more on this story and all of the latest Colchester United news, including all the latest on Anthony Wordsworth's switch to Ipswich Town and Duguid's Diary.

I will be very annoyed if Tom Eastman gets dropped on Saturday, after he came on 2nd half against Wallsal and played extremely well. To me the defence looked far stronger and deserves to keep his place.

I agree, I would like to see Eastman playing along side Thompson. However, I bet Dunne goes for Okuonghae along side Thompson.
