Colchester United have completed the signing of veteran David Wright from Crystal Palace.

The 32-year-old former Ipswich Town player, who is the U's eighth signing of the transfer window, can play in a variety of positions.

Wright played much of his early career at full-back but over recent seasons, has played predominantly in midfield for Crystal Palace.

He has clocked up nearly 450 league appearances during his career and offers U's boss Joe Dunne another option in defence and midfield, particularly with skipper Kem Izzet still sidelined with an ankle injury.

Yes another ex Ipswich Town connection. What I mean is that we have had a few of them over the years whether being ex managers or players. Even at present we have some on the coaching side, plus a player. Some of those have been good and some just plain awful, particular one ex town player who cost £50,000 which was a lot of money in those days and turned out a huge flop. David Wright is an experienced player and lets hope he can help to steady a shaky defence.

What the U's more urgently need
to lift the team and the crowd is
a Lua Lua- style magician,an experienced and charismatic goalkeeper (a Mike Walker or a Jimmy Walker, rather than a Sam Walker) and
another striker, but as we need to take
twenty eight points from a possible fifty seven points to ensure safety,
we are probably down already.
Meanwhile, the U's have allowed one of
its best players,John Joe O'Toole,
to remain at Bristol Rovers for another
two months, when he should be here helping us.
Rovers boss John Ward told the
Bristol Post:
'I've spoken to Joe Dunne and the decision is down to John Joe now.Joe has gone on record to say that John-Joe is unlikely to play if he goes back there,so Colchester are happy to let us keep him for the next couple of months with a 24 hour recall.I'm hopeful that
he will want to stay here and enjoy being part of a club that is progressing.'

Understandably Bristol Rovers fans
are delighted.One fan,BlueFace,
said :
'I hope he signs.......a very good player, who has made a difference for
Rovers.'
Another fan,Teews,said :
'Here here.'
Downend Blue said :
'The sort of player we've been
needing for some time.'
Pierrecardinal said:
'This can be your home John-Joe.
We welcome you with open arms.'

I think this could be a good signing. We all, virtually to a man, felt Rowlands was let go too early and arguably Wright has had more experience in the game and been as successful as Rowlands was. This could be the solid base we need to cover those gaps at the back. For the first time in a while I'm feeling optimisitc. Walsall are in fine form and so were we on a run like this only a couple of months ago. We went into the game with them about 6 weeks ago feeling anything other than a win would have been a disaster with their 15game odd winless streak behind them. Beating us sparked them into life. No reason it should happen again and for us to be on the positive end again. Joe's had two weeks to get his new team together so hopefully in that time they've formed some sense of cohesion that was obviously lacking last time out with Scunthorpe. Walsall are no better than us, they're in the vein of form we were in earlier. A run half as good as they've been on would see us safe sooner rather than later. When I turn up today, if I see a hungry team wanting to represent Colchester Utd and do well for US I will be happy. If we see that I'm sure the three points will be a formality. Bring....it....on...
...(probably be postponed now!)

In a word no, and has not done for a very long time. There is loads of good talent inside a 60 mile radius of this town and they are snapped up by other clubs, some clubs are only semi-pro, why is this?

What's The Story? says...

totallyfootball, I'd say we'd done well with our scouting recently and the young lads coming through the system show very much that we have done some great scouting of the best in young talent recently.

Mm really, findng a 32 year old that has been around is hardly great scouting but I guess we will have to agree to disagree? I reckon the proof of your statement will be where we are at the end of the season and I personally feel I will be happy with my comments then as I am now?
