Colchester United manager Joe Dunne is hoping their basement battle with Hartlepool United will go ahead this weekend.

Freezing conditions have put the League One game at Victoria Park in doubt, with further snow forecast to hit the north-east tomorrow.

Pools will stage a pitch inspection tomorrow morning at 10.30am, in an effort to determine whether their pitch will be playable.

Dunne said: "We want to play - that elusive win has to happen at some stage and stopping the rot.

“We want to keep playing because the worst thing is to have too much time to think, when you’re not involved.

“I have to pay credit to Hartlepool, because they’ve kept us bang up to date with everything.

“Their communication pathway about the game has been excellent.

“We know it’s cold up there and there’s snow due.

“We’ll train here first and see what the weather is like when they have a chat up there but we’ll prepare to play."
