New recruit Dominic Samuel has admitted his switch to Colchester United took him by surprise.
But the U’s latest signing regards his move to the Weston Homes Community Stadium as a “golden opportunity” to impress.
Samuel, 18, has joined Colchester on a month’s loan from Premier League strugglers Reading.
The England under-19 international is in line to make his U’s debut when they travel to play Doncaster Rovers tomorrow.
Samuel said: “I was very surprised when the call came to join Colchester.
“But I’m excited at the same time and I’m looking forward to playing some football in a different team."
