FC CLACTON midfielder Jordan Brazitis wants his side to strive for consistency in the closing weeks of the season.

The Seasiders have won three and lost three of their last six league and cup matches - most recently winning 2-0 at Haverhill Rovers before losing by the same score against title-chasing Coggeshall Town on Tuesday.

Brazitis believes his side are making progress and have a clear gameplan.

Now he wants them to convert it into Thurlow Nunn League points in their remaining seven matches - starting with their Easter fixtures against Histon and Wivenhoe Town.

“We gave Coggeshall a really good game on Tuesday and it was disappointing to finish empty-handed,” he told the Gazette.

“They’re second in the table and going for the title but, as a group, we pushed them hard and made them work for their victory.

“We have to look at the positives and now we have to aim for consistency.

“We’re not quite managing that at the moment but we have to stay focused and I’m confident it will come.

“As a group, we’ve definitely made progress.

“(Manager) Tom (Austin) is setting us up properly, in the way he wants us to play.

“We’ve definitely got a gameplan and know what we want to do.”

Clacton host Histon on Saturday before making the short trip to north Essex neighbours Wivenhoe Town on Easter Monday. Both games kick-off at 3pm.

Brazitis hopes his side can pocket more points and says one thing can be guaranteed - workrate.

“We’re prepared to work hard for each other,” he said.

“We’ve been together most of the season – there haven’t been many who have come in or gone out - and we’re a tight-knit group.

“Histon will be another tough game.

“They’re near the top and I think they’re the best team we’ve played this season.

“Then we’ve got Wivenhoe and we beat them (3-0 in the Tolleshunt D’Arcy Memorial Cup semi-final) the other Wednesday.

“Hopefully we can follow that up by getting three points against them in the league.”

Meanwhile, Austin has sung the praises of 17-year-old right-back Jenson Mulqueen, who shone against Coggeshall.

“Jenson was superb,” said Austin. “He was up against someone who’s been at a Football League club (former Colchester United youngster Nnamdi Nwachuku).

“I don’t think he got the better of him too many times.

“It was just a shame I couldn’t play him for longer because of his college football.

“That’s why I had to bring him off – because he had a college game yesterday afternoon.

“I thought he was superb.

“I threw him in at the deep end but I thought he did really well and I was very pleased with him.

“He’s a little gem.”
