A BUSY week, on and off the pitch, at FC Clacton culminated with last night’s Tolleshunt D’Arcy Memorial Cup semi-final against Wivenhoe Town at Broad Lane.

Unfortunately, this column had to be written prior to the game taking place, but hopefully we were successful and are now awaiting the final against our neighbours, Brightlingsea Regent.

It would mean a reunion with one of his former clubs for our new assistant manager, Adrian Webster.

The appointment of Adrian was confirmed by manager Tom Austin last Thursday evening and we are all delighted to welcome such an experienced and highly-respected footballing person to the club.

We are also pleased to welcome back a popular figure in goalkeeper Joe Fowler.

Joe returns to the club following the departure of fellow goalkeeper Luke Avenell to Coggeshall Town last Thursday.

Joe was back between the sticks for our trip to Walsham-le-Willows this past Saturday, but unfortunately the game didn’t go how he or anybody else connected to FCC would have wanted, with the hosts running out 5-0 winners.

Though the final scoreline was somewhat flattering, I’m sure Tom would have been looking for a positive reaction from the boys at Wivenhoe last evening.

This weekend sees us on our travels once more, with Haverhill Rovers our opponents at The New Croft, before a swift reunion with Luke and his new club, with Coggeshall the visitors to the Bowl next Tuesday evening.

Having been postponed twice previously, we will be looking to finally stage this game at the third attempt and we will also be looking to end a run of three defeats in all competitions against the Seedgrowers this season.

That will be no easy task, however, when facing such strong opposition who are now many people’s favourites to go on and win the Thurlow Nunn League premier division crown.

But stranger things have happened in football and, having had so few home matches in recent weeks, we now need your support more than ever. You might even get to meet Olly Murs!

So please join us at the Bowl either next Tuesday evening or at one of our remaining home matches this season, details of which are at our website www.fcclacton.com We hope to see you there!

Come on you Seasiders!
