IT’S beginning to look a lot like Christmas as the Rush Green Bowl has been turned into a winter wonderland by all the recent snow and frost.

And Santa Claus may be coming to town but there were no free gifts on offer as FC Clacton had to graft for three points against an in-form Ely City.

Going into Saturday’s fixture, you had a real contrast in form.

Clacton were on their worst run of the season, having lost four games in a row.

Ely were the form team of the division, having won seven on the trot to propel themselves into the top five.

Surely a banker away win was on the cards?

Of course not.

Instead, we got a display that stopped the Ely cavalry, with goals from a Kevin Coyle penalty and another from Jake Plane (pictured below), giving the Seasiders a deserved 2-0 win.

Form book turned upside down!

The win represents a significant landmark as we have now passed last season’s points total with 33 points from 27 games so far, compared to 31 points from 40 games last season.

Last Christmas we had 11 points from 24 league games.

This year (with Saturday’s game at Histon to play) we have 33 from 27.

That is a stat that will bring a bit of festive cheer to Kieron and Mike as they’re driving home for Christmas and they and the players can look back on a good first half of the season.

Next up is a trip to Histon on Saturday before we have Boxing Day football at the Bowl when Wivenhoe Town make the short trip to see us.

Kick-off is at 11am and I for one am not dreaming of a white Christmas as it would be great to see a bumper crowd supporting the boys.

Until then all that is left is to wish you a very happy and healthy Christmas and hopefully we will see you all at the Bowl on Boxing Day.

Until then please don’t let it snow! Merry Christmas everyone!
