IF last week didn’t feel like a defeat, this week certainly did!

With freezing overnight temperatures forecast for across the region, the prospects of us making the trip to Thetford the following day didn’t look all that good on Friday afternoon.

Twenty-four hours later, I was rather disappointed that Jack Frost hadn’t managed to do his worst….

If there was a saving grace for me personally, it was that I’d been unable to make the trip up to Norfolk, instead having to settle for following the game on social media.

And it wasn’t long before news of the game’s first goal came through.

Ten minutes, to be precise, as the hosts took a 1-0 lead.

Fast forward another ten minutes and 1-0 had become 3-0, with yours truly uttering things that have no place in a family publication!

Things looked very bad indeed.

But there was hope!

Hope as we hit back almost immediately through Matt Eve, before Kevin Coyle’s goal on the stroke of half-time further reduced the arrears.

Optimism restored.

Come on boys, we can do this!

But as has been mentioned numerous times recently in regard to English cricket’s current Ashes debacle, it’s the hope that kills you!

Thetford would go on to score three more times in the second half to run out 6-2 victors, on what would appear to be a very disappointing afternoon at Mundford Road.

I would just like to reiterate at this point that I wasn’t at the game, so if (management pair) Kieron (Shelley) or Mike (Wallace) have a totally different and/or positive viewpoint on the opposite page, I’m sorry and please don’t hurt me!

But in all seriousness, it’s a return to home comforts this weekend as we welcome Ely City.

With defeat to Brantham at the end of last month ending a six-game unbeaten run at home in the league, we’ve certainly enjoyed playing at the Rush Green Bowl of late.

Ely are the form side in the division, however, having won each of their last seven league games, so it will be another tough test in prospect.

But with the tough assignments having brought the best out of us so far this season, why shouldn’t we be looking for another positive result?

Join us at the Bowl on Saturday afternoon to find out if we can achieve just that.

Come on you Seasiders!
