I DON’T know whether Martin (Oswick) bought a lottery ticket on Saturday evening but he should have done!

Those who read last week’s column will recall his prediction (well, I think it was more hope than an actual prediction, but work with me here!) that I would be talking about a cracking win here this week, with the boys having learned from the mistakes of the Hadleigh United match.

And that’s exactly what I’m able to do, as a brilliant team display led us to a hard-fought 2-1 win over Newmarket Town at the Bowl at the weekend.

Jake Plane scored twice for the second home game in succession to take the headlines and also attract an approach from a fellow premier division club immediately after the game.

I’m delighted to report that he has turned down that approach and opted to remain with us at Clacton.

Both developments speak volumes for how far the club have come already this season, with our management team of Kieron Shelley and Mike Wallace deserving tremendous credit for the job they have done, along with the players themselves.

There is a fantastic spirit within the camp which was clearly evident on Saturday afternoon, as the boys stuck together, showing heart, character and desire, to achieve a well-deserved victory.

The three points mean we are now just a point short of our final total for the whole of last season and we will be looking to reach and hopefully overtake that landmark when we travel to Fakenham Town this Saturday.

We then face Brantham Athletic at the Bowl next Tuesday evening.

On Sunday, December 3, we celebrate the club’s 125th anniversary with a special match at the Bowl.

We are looking for fans past and present to get in touch with their favourite Clacton Town/FC Clacton memories for a special commemorative programme.

If you’d like to contribute, please get in touch with us by e-mail at programme@fcclacton.com by Monday, November 27 and we’ll do our best to include them in the programme.

And please join us on the day to see some familiar faces back in Clacton colours.

It’s a 3pm kick-off at the Bowl on Sunday, December 3 and entry is free, so you’ve no reason not to be there!

We hope to see you at the Bowl at some point over the next ten days.

Come on you Seasiders!
