FC CLACTON midfielder Kevin Coyle hopes to play with renewed spark and confidence after his brace in the Seasiders’ 4-3 victory at Haverhill Borough.

The long-serving wide man netted twice, both from the penalty spot, in a thrilling Thurlow Nunn League premier division contest on Saturday afternoon.

They were his first goals since scoring in a 2-2 draw at Newmarket Town on September 23.

And they were only his second and third for the club since returning from Bostik League premier division neighbours Brightlingsea Regent.

Coyle admits his confidence levels have been low but hopes his weekend double helps him rediscover his mojo.

“By my own admission, I haven’t been in great form and my confidence has been low,” he said.

“I’ve found myself snatching at things, rather than relaxing and playing my natural game.

“Things just haven’t been happening for me and that’s why it was so good to score twice on Saturday.

“They might have been penalties but they were still goals and I’m hoping it will give me a bit of a spark going forward.

“Normally I’m desperate to take it if we’re awarded a penalty but I was happy to let Terry (Rymer) do the honours when we got one at Newmarket.

“I didn’t feel confident about taking it.

“He was on the bench at the weekend, though, and so it was down to me to step forward.

“Thankfully it went in and now I’m hoping it gives my confidence levels a big boost.

“Aside from scoring, I played well and it was the most enjoyable game I’ve played in since coming back to Clacton.

“Now I’m really looking forward to our next match.”

Clacton boss Kieron Shelley praised his players for “digging deep” after dominating the first hour at Haverhill.

“We completely controlled the game for 60 minutes and had to dig deep for the last 30,” he said.

“There were negatives and positives but that’s football and the most important thing was getting three points.”

Shelley’s side return to league action at home to Saffron Walden Town on Saturday.
