FC CLACTON boss Kieron Shelley said there were plenty of positives from Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Haverhill Rovers.

The Seasiders were deservedly leading 2-0 in the Thurlow Nunn League premier division contest, thanks to first-half goals from Kalon Harms and Wayne Blackman.

Matt Stace was then sent off for violent conduct midway through the second half and the hosts responded with two quick goals.

“We were brilliant in the first half and took the game to Haverhill,” said Shelley.

“They couldn’t get near us for 35 minutes and we totally deserved to be 2-0 ahead. We annihilated them.

“It was obviously disappointing to concede two quick goals after the sending off, which was certainly a pivotal point in the game.

“But overall there were still a huge amount of positives.

“Haverhill pushed for a winner towards the end of the game but we shut up shop and they couldn’t break us down.

“We didn’t crumble.

“That really pleased me and it was still a decent point – a result I would have taken at the start.”

Clacton are now preparing for a home match against Great Yarmouth Town, at the Rush Green Bowl on Saturday.

The Norfolk side are fourth in the table and leading a pack of clubs in a congested top ten.

“All the pressure is on Yarmouth,” added Shelley.

“If they’ve got serious ambitions of pushing for the title, they have to come to our place and look to win.

“But from our point of view, we’ve just got to keep producing the same level of performance that we’ve managed in the last four games.

“I really believe we’ll stay up.”
