FC CLACTON assistant boss Jon Willis insists his team possess match-winners who will help turn the club’s fortunes.

The Seasiders lost 1-0 at unbeaten Thurlow Nunn League premier division side Gorleston on Saturday.

They then shipped three goals in quick succession during Tuesday’s 4-0 League Challenge Cup second-round defeat at home to Stanway Rovers.

However, despite it being another frustrating week, Willis can see light at the end of the tunnel - and hopes things turn in tonight’s premier division derby at Brantham Athletic.

“At some point it’s going to happen for us,” he said.

“A win will come and at some point, hopefully, we’ll bash someone.

“On our day, we’ve got match-winners and when they start winning I can see us putting a run together.

“We’ve got characters in there now that don’t like losing. They’re not used to it and won’t accept it.

“Every game has been close, but we’re not asking enough questions of sides at the moment.

“We need to go in front and then see how the other team react.”

Clacton had been hoping to build on the previous week’s opening point of the season, when they drew 2-2 at Ipswich Wanderers.

However, Gorleston, fourth at the start of the day, scored their winner in the second half.

Kevin Coyle was also left to rue a saved penalty, from the last kick of the first half.

“We were really unlucky on Saturday,” said Willis.

“We had five or six really good chances and missed a penalty.

“Had we been two-up at half-time it would have been a fair reflection.

“To then go on to lose the game was really disappointing.

“I still can’t believe we didn’t win.”
