STANWAY ROVERS were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Ely City, in the Thurlow Nunn League.

Angelo Harrop’s side took the lead through Jake Clowsley put were pegged back from the penalty spot, by their Cambridgeshire visitors.

The result means Stanway are now unbeaten in 12 premier division fixtures and have not lost since their 3-0 defeat at home to WIVENHOE TOWN, on August 16.

They also trimmed the gap on leaders Mildenhall Town, who did not have a game on Saturday, to five points.

Elsewhere in the premier division, Wivenhoe suffered a rare defeat after going down 2-1 at home to Haverhill Rovers.

It was a battle of ninth v tenth at the Maple Tree Cars Stadium.

And it was the team that started in the lower position who emerged with maximum points, despite being behind at half-time.

Wivenhoe took the lead when Ben Connell’s free-kick fed Adam Hampson, who cut inside before firing into the far corner.

However, Miguel Nydam scored an unfortunate own goal after the break, inadvertently knocking a low cross into his own net to make it all-square.

A Haverhill striker then pounced to grab his side’s winner, although the hosts so nearly equalised when a header from a corner came back off the bar.

FC CLACTON were unable to build on last week’s opening point of the season – when they drew 2-2 against Ipswich Wanderers – as they lost 1-0 at Gorleston.

The hosts, fourth at the start of the day and the only unbeaten side left in the premier division, scored their winner in the second half.

Clacton were also left to rue a missed penalty, from the last kick of the first half.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC’S impressive recent run continued as they won 1-0 at Fakenham Town.

Kieran Lawler rose to nod home a dramatic winner deep in stoppage time.

The Imps are now unbeaten in four.

In division one, leaders COGGESHALL TOWN were held to a goal-less draw at King’s Lynn Reserves.

HOLLAND FC swept to a 4-0 victory at home to bottom team Dereham Town Reserves, at the Rush Green Bowl, while BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES pipped Whitton United 1-0.

HALSTEAD TOWN were without a game this weekend.
