IT was more disappointment for Old Southendian & Southchurch as they went down by 84 runs to Harlow Town.

Despite Aaron Lucas winning the toss for the Old Boys, the hosts went about building a decent total, with Ashley Alderson hitting 88, Matt Hurley 55 and Chris Powell 43 on the way to 233-8 in 50 overs.

Matt Austin took 3-46 in 11 overs, with David Johnson, Michael Bunce and Sam Hodgson each taking a wicket apiece on a good surface.

Southendian made a good start in the run chase as Johnson and Max Craddock put on 47 for the first wicket but few of the top order could stick with Johnson as he scored a quick-fire 57 off 35 balls.

Hodgson (28) was the second highest scorer with Lucas’ team toppling to 149 all out after just 34.1 overs.

Powell did the damage with the ball as he ended with 5-49 in 10.1 overs.

A superb unbeaten century from Wickford opener Tanvir Alam wasn’t enough to see them over the line as they shared the points with Horndon-on-the-Hill.

Alam’s 113 not out came from 136 balls and, although he was ably supported by Dale Kinsey (63), the rest of the order failed to provide meaningful support.

Only Charlie Phillippe (26) made more than 20 as Wickford closed on 261-8 in 50 overs.

Horndon’s Jeff West took 3-64 off 16 overs and there were two apiece for Connor Price and Ryan Madder.

Horndon started well in response and there were a number of steady knocks in their innings.

Tom Stone (37), West (49) and Scott Plom (66 not out) saw them close on 204-7 in 46 overs.

David Cole took 3-63 in 16 overs, two for Jamie Went and one each for J Sloane and Chirag Desai.

Leigh-on-Sea failed to build on a promising start as their winless run went on against Hainault & Clayhall.

It was a six wicket defeat for Dean Waller’s men although they were sitting pretty at 96-0, with Iain McDonald (46) and Jon Edwards (43) doing the damage.

However, six wickets fell by the time Leigh had added 10 runs to that tally, with only Paddy Groves’ 39 preventing more embarrassment as they were all out for 179 with 3.9 overs to spare.

Ryan Hurst took 4-42 and was the pick of the bowlers.

And Hainault lost just four wickets as they passed the total in 32 overs. Irfan Shah (72) and Dominic Hurst (60 not out) put on 115 for the first wicket and although several late wickets fell it was too late for Leigh.

Alex Camp took all four wickets, ending with 4-62 in 10 overs.
