ST OSYTH Boxing Club had their busiest night of the season as Tyler Upchurch, Carl Rollins, Anton Baldock, Jordan Gosling and Jake Godderidge represented Essex at a dinner show at the Crowne Plaza Resort, in Colchester.

After making the weight and working hard in training, Godderidge suffered disappointment and did not make the card as his opponent failed to travel.

However, there were still four more bouts to concentrate on.

First up was Gosling, looking to get a first win under his belt.

It would not be a easy task, though, as he took on a competent fighter from Thetford.

The first round was a lively affair, with both boxers looking strong and boxing with straight shots and at range.

However, when the bell came at the end of the round, it looked to be going Gosling's way.

The second round was a more scrappy affair, with the referee getting involved, splitting the fighters and warning both boxers.

Both went back to the corners for their final instructions.

The third round started explosively, with both boxers trading blows.

It was a very competitive encounter and could have gone either way.

However, unfortunately for Gosling, the judges returned a split decision in favour of the Thetford boy.

Next up was Upchurch, who had a tough three-round affair against an experienced southpaw fighter from Aston BC, in Birmingham.

Throughout the fight, he was finding it difficult to find his range.

Getting close to his experienced opponent proved difficult and he was being caught with the counter punch much too often.

It was a great display of boxing rather than a shoot out of power.

Upchurch boxed well but, in the end, a unanimous decision went against him. Immediately after the fight a rematch was agreed, with Upchurch stating he had learnt a lot and will be looking forward to adjusting his approach next time.

After the interval it was the turn of Baldock.

Given his own personal style of boxing, many from the gym were excited about watching this bout.

Baldock did not disappoint. From the start, he dominated his opponent with his boxing skills.

In a flurry of fast, straight shots and wicked combinations, his Woking opponent was struggling to find answer.

As the fight went on, the domination continued, despite his opponent working hard and coming forward with heart.

When the judges returned their verdict, it was a unanimous victory for Baldock - possibly his best-ever performance in the ring.

Last up was heavyweight Rollins.

He was facing an opponent from Ipswich that he had previously beaten.

A surprisingly nervous Rollins started well, trading heavy blows, but the fast pace of the first round seemed to take its toll as both boys returned to the corner with honours even.

In the second, Rollins looking tired as his hands were low and he was leaving his chin exposed.

The Ipswich boxer took full advantage and Rollins was losing his gum shield on a regular basis.

The shots were heavy and relentless and while Rollins responded with all he had, they were not having the desired effect.

The corner decided to call a stop to the fight after one particular shot shook him to his boots.
