CLACTON boxer Justin Johnson is hoping for a busy year to get his career back on track.

The light heavyweight was on the wrong end of a pair of disappointing decisions at the start of his professional career and the 34-year-old is looking to rebuild in 2018.

He is matched with Darren Snow on promoter Mickey Helliet’s show at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on February 10.

And he hopes the fight proves the start of a busy year ahead.

“I want to be fighting all the time, every week if I can,” said Johnson.

“I’ve started late and that’s how I'll improve, by fighting regularly.

“I’m planning to do that for the next two or three years and see where it takes me.

“I want to get up to eight-round level and maybe then get a shot at the Southern Area title.

"I'd love to get a belt – or a shot at a belt – out of boxing.

“I’m 34 now and not getting any younger, so I’m looking for a busy year to push my career along.

“I’ve had a couple of results not go my way.

"There was a draw on my debut (against Mark Till at the Camden Centre), when everyone thought I won, and the crowd booed when the referee gave Mohammed Karimzadeh the decision over me (last November).

“That fight should have been a draw at least.

“I’m looking to rebuild this year and then push on, but even if the results don’t go my way, I’m not going to quit.

“I enjoy boxing and I want to have 30 or 40 fights before I retire.”

Johnson used to play football for Clacton Town.

After turning to boxing, he enjoyed an unbeaten career in the unlicensed ring, winning all 21 of his amateur fights, but decided to go pro in 2015 in order to raise money for youngest son Leon.

Tickets for the show at the York Hall, topped by an eliminator for the Commonwealth super lightweight title, are available on 07429 525360.
