HOLLAND FC joint-boss Ray Turner is convinced his players are capable of a top-three finish this season - now he wants them to start proving it on a consistent basis.

The club suffered a disappointing 2-0 Thurlow Nunn League first division defeat at home to March Town United.

Saturday’s setback was their fourth straight loss - three in the league and one in the FA Vase.

And while certain his players can challenge in the upper echelons of the table, Turner wants them to get back on track and prove his confidence is not unfounded. “We’re not a million miles away and we’ve got decent players,” he said.

“Now we need to be more consistent in the league because we’ve already lost too many games, in my opinion.

“We’re underachieving because with the players and team we’ve got, we should be in the top three. Definitely.

“But now we’ve got to show how good we are, on a consistent basis.

“It’s no good just talking about it.”

Despite recent results, Turner insists the mood in the camp has been much-improved, following recent issues with discipline and too many red cards.

“We want to get the fun-factor back and there’s been a better atmosphere in the changing room and on the pitch,” he said.

“The mood hadn’t been as good, because of the discipline issue.

“It affected us and even I felt a bit down about it.

“I wondered if we (the management team) are too exuberant on the sidelines and thought about sitting in the dugout and not saying too much.

“But I’m not made like that and it wouldn’t be the right thing to do.”

Holland were due to visit Wivenhoe Town for a League Cup tie last night and return to league action at Swaffham Town on Saturday. They had previously eliminated the premier division Dragons from the FA Vase.
