STRIKER Billy Hunt has nailed his colours to the Brightlingsea Regent mast after signing a contract with the Taydal Stadium side.

New R's boss Tom Rothery described the news as a "massive boost" and said it was one of the first things he discussed with chairman Terry Doherty, after being appointed as James Webster's replacement.

"I’m really pleased I’ve been able to sign Billy on a contract," said Rothery, whose side entertain Harlow Town in the Bostik League premier division on Saturday.

"He’s a player I’ve watched from afar and always liked, especially when he plays as a striker, and it was one of the first things I discussed with Terry.

"I want to settle the club down after the recent upheaval and getting Billy on contract is a massive boost.

"It allows me to plan better when I know I have the players I want to work with and the style of play I intend to adopt.

"Billy is going to be a key component in this and not only is he a good player, his attitude since I’ve joined has been superb, as has all the players."

Rothery thanked Doherty as well as treasurer Phil Calver and commercial manager Gavin Aplin for helping him sanction the Hunt deal.
