HOLLAND FC joint-boss Ray Turner sees no reason why his side cannot continue their FA Vase adventure.

The Thurlow Nunn League side are preparing for a first-round proper clash at home to Great Wakering Rovers.

The sides are set to go head-to-head at the Rush Green Bowl tomorrow night (kick-off 7.45pm).

Holland have already eliminated Thurlow Nunn League premier division neighbours Wivenhoe Town and Spartan South Midlands League outfit Wodson Park in this season’s Vase.

And Turner fully believes his side, who lost 3-1 at home to second-placed King’s Lynn Town Reserves on Saturday, can keep the journey going against Wakering.

“We’re really looking forward to it,” he told the Gazette.

“It’s a home tie, which is what we wanted, and certainly a winnable tie.

“We see it as a definite chance to progress further and I believe we’ve got a team capable of doing that.

“If we could get through to the later stages of the competition, it would be a really special achievement.

“It would be amazing for the players and I know from my experiences as a player how great it is to have a run in one of the cup competitions.

“It’s the kind of thing you look back on as a real highlight when you’ve hung up your boots.

“It would also be good for the club financially and hopefully we can get a few extra people through the gate on Friday.”

Holland won 2-0 at Wivenhoe, in the first qualifying round, before drawing 2-2 at Wodson Park.

They then thumped the Hertfordshire side 4-1 in a replay back at the Bowl.

Turner’s troops were back in league action on Saturday, going down 3-1 against King’s Lynn Reserves.

And while he would love his club to keep their Vase run going, the Holland boss says his top priority will always be Thurlow Nunn League points.

“The one thing I don’t want from this run is for it to affect our league form,” he said.

“We’ve lost four games now and on three occasions, I don’t think we deserved to lose.

“Ultimately we want to get promoted and that will always be our priority.” Turner has confirmed that Danny Slatter has stepped up to join his management team. He will now be player-coach.

Holland have no midweek game.
