THERE was a full field at Frinton Golf Club to help raise money for their Bursary.

The format was a five-man Texas Scramble and the promised rain managed to hold off until the last team was in.

The scoring was tight among the top three teams.

The winners, with a nett score of 55.3, were Ed Glease, Dan Nicholls, Joe Jackson, Paul Mutton and Sam Jackson.

The best mixed team consisted of Frank Thorpe, Claire Vaughan, Stephen Vaughan, Andy Hockey and Simon Jayne. They scored 55.5.

The best ladies' team were captain Marilyn Clarke, Angela Vaughan, Diane Gerrard, Audrey Joshua and Sheran Harding, with 63.3.

It was a good day for the Vaughan family and also for Harry Sanderson, who scored a hole-in-one at the third.

The Arthur Havers Bursary sponsors a comprehensive coaching programme for juniors, assists club teams with support and travel and provides financial help to members who have fallen on difficult times.

The day was sponsored by Stabilised Pavements, who gave a generous donation and supplied the prizes.

The ladies played their sixth Main Day stableford on Tuesday.

The north wind was stiff, making play that much more difficult, and the greens were bobbly due to the hollow tining carried out recently for course maintenance.

The low scores reflected these conditions.

The winner of the day was Jeannie Nokes, with a score of 31 points.

Three ladies had 29, with Jan McLellan awarded second on countback, ahead of third-placed Judith Little and Tracey Taylor.

Frinton's seniors returned from their away fixture at Stoke-by-Nayland with a highly-respectable draw, at four games each.

Next up was a home tie against Hintlesham Golf Club.

The day was notable for very strong winds and frequent gusts.

Eventually the Frinton team managed to master the difficult playing conditions and recorded a five games to three victory.

Sandwiched between these two matches, the Summer League event drew to a close.

Nobody managed to catch the early leader and Tony Mann duly went on to a comfortable victory.

In second place was Simon Parkes and Phil Townsend finished in third spot.
