FRINTON'S cricketers were comfortable seven-wicket winners in their Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League match at home to Mildenhall, on Saturday.

Skipper Kyran Young continued his run of good run with the coin as he again won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first.

The weakened Mildenhall batting attack proved no match for Frinton's bowlers, who were keen to prove a point after their early-season defeat against the Suffolk club.

Veteran opener Andy Squire held firm for Mildenhall while others fell around him.

Dan Carter quickly removed Murtaza Hussain and Jack Loveday for six and ten respectively.

Then, when Mervyn Westfield removed Squire for 40, followed by Tyron Koen and Ben Shepperson, the visitors were in serious trouble.

The introduction of Barbadian spinner Kemar Smith provided the death blow as he cleaned up with the hat-trick of Tom Allen, Ryan Clark and James Allen and finished with a match-winning figures of five wickets for 32 runs as the visitors finished on 145 all out.

In-form Frinton openers Michael Griggs and Michael Comber set about the small total with gusto with an 89-run first-wicket partnership.

When Griggs departed on 42 and Comber on 57, the hard work had been done and Frinton cruised over the line with seven wickets and 23 overs in hand.

Frinton now travel to leaders Sudbury on Saturday while Frinton's second team - who lost by 67 runs at Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division one leaders Elmstead last weekend - entertain Wivenhoe at Ashlyns Road (1pm start).
