TENNIS players showed class is permanent during an International Tennis Federation (ITF) grade two veterans' tournament in Frinton.

The town's lawn tennis club have been hosting the tournament on their grass courts for 42 years and competitors came from all over the world, including the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, India, Hungary, Lithuania and Germany.

The sun shone most of the time and both players and spectators enjoyed a terrific week of high-quality singles and doubles.

Zane Cheeseman, from Maidstone, in Kent, was the winner of the 35s category.

"Frinton was my first ITF 35s event and I'd highly recommend it to any senior players out there," he said.

"The grass courts are some of the best I've played on and the vintage feel of the clubhouse gives off a very English vibe.

"The event was run and played in great spirit and was a pleasure to be part of."

Author and illustrator Jasper Cooper won the 60s event, beating Tony King, ranked number two in the UK.

He said of the final: "We had a close first set and then I pulled away in the second.

"I was ranked sixth in the 60s in the UK but will rise to three after winning here at Frinton."
