ESSEX girls' champion Katy Yates enjoyed more success when she won Clacton Golf Club's Ladies' Club Championship.

She won the prestigious title for the second time, returning gross scores of 74 and 75 for a total of 149.

In second place was 2016 winner and 2017 Essex ladies' champion Fay Trigg, returning scores of 86 and 82 for 168.

Third place went to Denise Pink, returning scores of 90 and 88 for 178.

In the handicap match, the winner was Yates with nett 70 and 71 for 141.

Julia Hewett took second with 72 and 81 for 153 and in third place was Pink with 78 and 76 for 154.

Fourth place went to Angela Barratt with 76 and 79 for 155.

Clacton seniors' captain John Kemp welcomed counterpart Alan Williams and his team from Ipswich (Purdies) Golf Club.

After lunch it was announced that the match was halved, therefore setting up an exciting return match at Ipswich on August 25.

Results: John Kemp and Don Dunham won 5&4 against Alan Williams and Chris Lee; Peter Wiggins and Joe Middleton lost 3&2 against Derek Rush and Richard Barrett; Rick Hale and Keith Stetzel won 3&2 against George McLennen and Richard Colman; Maurice Tarrant and Richard Weeks won 4&2 against Richard Watson and Tony Smith; John Stuck and Ray Crossfield lost one-down to Colin Jennings and Michael Smy; John Fisher and Doug Nichols lost one-down to David Cordle and Paul Garden; Derek Woodrow and David Needham won 4&2 against Colin Firmin and Vic Carey; Bill Highstead and Brian Langmead lost 5&3 to Peter Rose and John Arthur.

Clacton's men played for the Victory Cup, which was presented to the club in 1919 by Robert Coan.

The 2017 winner, returning a first-class score of 72, less his handicap of eight and equalling a nett score of 64, was Tony Chandler.

In second was Steven Richards, with a impressive 82-17-65, on countback from third-placed Adrian Dale (86-21-65).

Lady captain Di Kedge welcomed the ladies from The Essex for their second ELGU Harris Bowl match of 2017.

The Clacton team of Faye Trigg, Denise Pink, Fiona Cope, Angela Barratt and Jackie Bright were ably supported by caddies Brenda Lord, Jennie Corbyn, Kedge, Shirley Whiston and Sue Gurry.

This competition is played off handicap, with several players giving as many as ten shots.

However, the Clacton ladies recorded an excellent win of four matches to one.

Their next match is on Monday, July 17 when they welcome Thorpe Hall.

Clacton's junior section played the Sandie Radkin Cup and the winner was Liam Leech, with 42 points.

In second was Harrison Dove, with 41 points, and in third was Wilf Elliott, with 38.
