FRINTON followed up last week's demolition of Bury with a 122-run thumping of neighbours Copdock and Old Ipswichian, in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League at Ashlyns Road.

With Michael Griggs unavailable, it fell on Barbadian Kemar Smith to open the batting with Joe Fowler.

Smith teed off immediately and hit a quick 12, until adjudged LBW to Copdock skipper Tom Rash.

Frinton skipper Kyran Young, fresh from a century last week, arrived at the crease and put on a 56-run second-wicket partnership until Fowler departed LBW for 32.

Copdock must have regretted a dropped catch early in Young's innings as the Australian held his bat for an unbeaten 86.

Useful contributions to Frinton’s 227 for nine came from Mervyn Westfield (19), Mike Comber (35) and Dan Carter (ten).

Any fears that this was not a winning total were quickly put to rest when Comber dismissed Copdock run-machine Martyn Cull for four, caught behind by keeper Tom Benn.

Young then introduced himself into the attack and dismissed former Essex player Jaik Mickleburgh for 11.

He followed this with a next-ball dismissal of Archie Gravell and very nearly claimed a hat-trick as Rash only just managed to get the bottom edge of his bat to a ball heading straight for his stumps.

With Comber bowling ten overs upfront and claiming three for 22, the other wickets were shared between Westfield, Smith, Young and Dan Carter.

The visitors stumbled to 105 all out, of which the 28 Frinton extras were the highest score in the scorebook.

Copdock skipper Tom Rash was gracious in defeat, tweeting: "Tough day today.

"Well played Frinton, (who) outplayed us.

"Their new pavilion is great and it really is a top place to play cricket now."

The official opening of Frinton's new pavilion will take place during the next home game on Saturday.

Frinton’s second team were unsuccessful in their Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division one fixture at Witham.

The hosts put on 202 for eight in their rain-shortened 45 overs, with Jermaine Shillingford claiming three for 48.

Frinton only managed 83 all out in response, with Australian Blake Reed top-scoring with 17 runs.

Frinton’s third team and ladies both clocked up wins against Colchester Cavaliers and Felixstowe respectively.

Frinton host Horsford on Saturday in an East Anglian Premier League match which starts at 11am.
