CLACTON and District Indoor Bowls Club held a presentation evening for all their winners and runners-up in the past year.

Treasurer James Lamb and secretary Jean Taylor presented Sandro Dos Santos, from the Clacton office of Cancer Research UK, with a cheque for £905.

This year Cancer Research was the chosen charity of president Vic Hunt. Unfortunately, Hunt was too unwell to attend.

Before the cheque was handed over, Lamb thanked on behalf of the president all those club members for their efforts in helping to achieve this generous amount.

Special thanks went to past men's captain Terry Cleland and his stand-in captains for making sure the collection box was out at every match and to the bar staff for looking after the box while it was on the bar.

Past ladies' captain Stella Newell organised a successful ladies' day to which her charity box also went to the same charity.

Further thanks went to Cleland, who had the idea of introducing the "wrong bias" collection box.

Before the trophies were given out, Lamb thanked league secretary Pat Cleland and her assistants, who have worked tirelessly to organise and run the leagues over the year.

Thanks also went to competition secretary Brian Hobbs, for organising and running the internal competitions and organising the trophies.
