MEMBERS attended the 11th AGM of Clacton Golf Club.

Chairman Bert Foster welcomed those present and paid tribute to those who have passed away in the last 12 months.

Members were informed that the club had had another successful year, which was as a result of teamwork throughout all areas.

Various improvements to the course were carried out and it was reported that the club as a whole was one of the most successful in the region.

On the recommendation of the board of directors, Robert Gillespie was elected an honorary life member for his long service and contribution to the club.

Looking ahead, members were informed that this year marked the club’s 125th anniversary.

Celebratory events are well in hand, with a wide variety of golf competitions and entertainment provided for the week of July 3 to 9.

The board of directors have agreed that Jeff Sinnott, who had been elected as captain for 2017 but unfortunately passed away earlier this year, would still be recognised as captain for the forthcoming 12 months.

New vice-captain Alfie Smith will stand in for him when necessary.

A record number of members came to witness Kath Sinnott drive-in on behalf of her late husband, Jeff.

Kath managed an excellent drive of 126 yards, using a driver, into the wind.

The winner who guessed the distance was Heather Bradfield.

Speaking after the event, Kath said: "I was delighted with the turnout and thank all those who attended.

"I felt a little nervous but I was pleased I managed to connect the ball."

This weekend, as per tradition, the men played the Moss Oldman Cup.

This is a competition between the incoming captain and outgoing captain, who each pick teams. Kevin Hill represented the incoming captain and won the competition with 5½, with Nick Smith, for the outgoing captain, managing 2½.

Clacton’s junior section played in the O’Boyle Shield.

Joshua Bethell won the competition with a nett score of four.

In second was Thomas Pirie, with two points, on countback, and in third was Jacob Lazaro, with two points, also on countback.

Clacton's ladies' section played in their Coronation Foursomes.

Di Kedge and Chris Crossfield won the competition, with 37 points.

In second were Hoon Locke and Faye Trigg, with 36 points, and in third were Kath Sinnott and Lorna Forder, with 31.

Pat Gilbert got a hole-in-one on the day, at the second hole, using her driver.
