THURROCK 5

CLACTON 2

East Men's League division three south-east

CLACTON missed the opportunity to move fourth from bottom and never really got going.

Thurrock, in contrast, made the most of their chances, despite already being relegated.

The home side countered Clacton well, scoring three breakaway goals in the first 20 minutes. The Seasiders got themselves on the scoresheet when Tom Sinclair tidied up a bouncing ball from one of a number of short-corners to make it 3-1.

The second half saw the Seasiders keeping possession much better and working the ball and their opponents' well through Denzil Donovan, Nick Key, Shane Walker, captain Carl Parkes, Mat Tims and Kieron Parkes.

The latter linked up with Timms and Sinclair to create a glorious chance.

Jack Blackbourn made some good saves to keep the score within reach and outstanding man-of-the-match Stephen Moriarty was rewarded with a goal for his tireless off-the-ball running and good hold and link-up play.

Henry Smith was also tireless and kept possession well, linking up with Rik Coleman to create a number of half-chances for Clacton.

However, the home keeper was in mean mood and the home side ran away with the points.

On Saturday, Clacton host top-of-the-table East London at Vista Road (2pm).
