BRIGHTLINGSEA completed the double over neighbours Clacton, in the Essex Men's Superleague.

They won 7-5 - a repeat of the scoreline they managed at Clacton.

Colin Lloyd was absent, so George Lord played his first match of the season.

First up for Brightlingsea were Joe Twinn and Sam Lepley, but they lost to Keith Wright and Andrew Currivan in 46 darts.

Brightlingsea levelled in the next set and Alan Collins and Kevin Edwards were superb in beating Curtis Hammond and Jason Evans in just 29 darts.

It was the first of three 24.52 combined averages.

Clacton’s Wayne Bloomfield and Adrian Genery returned the same average as they beat Lord and Gavin Payne.

Brightlingsea squared the match as Tony Osborne and Bryan Margerison beat Keith Farthing and Nic Groves, again in 29 darts, with Margerison averaging 39.57.

The singles started with a draw that looked very close on paper.

First up was Edwards, who looked to keep his fine form going as he participates in this weekend's PDC UK Open.

He beat Currivan in a last-leg decider, with both players averaging over 27.

Currivan won the first leg in 18 darts before Edwards responded with an excellent 11-dart leg, including a 180.

He then nicked the third in 23 darts before Currivan levelled with a 16-dart leg.

In the final leg, Edwards found a 17-dart leg to win the set.

Osborne beat Groves 3-1 with winning legs of 20, 17 and 24 darts to make it 4-2 to Brightlingsea.

Third on saw Payne make it 5-2 as he beat Genery in another last-leg decider.

Payne won the first leg in 17 darts but Genery won the next two, both in 24 darts.

Payne then levelled in 24 darts before winning the set in 20 darts.

Lord stepped up next for the first time this season, but was unable to prevent defeat as he went down 3-1 to Evans.

Evans won in 22, 22 and 21 darts.

The scoreline was brought to within one as Twinn lost to former Suffolk county player Keith Wright, who took his chances to win 3-1 with legs of 22, 29 and 18.

At 5-4, things were tight going into the last three sets.

Up next, Collins put in a professional performance as he beat former PDC Tour Card holder Hammond 3-1.

His winning legs were 20, 18 and 18 and he came out with a 24.12 average.

The two-set lead was reduced to one again in the penultimate set as Lepley was unable to prevent defeat as Farthing put in a man-of-the-match performance with legs of 19, 18 and 17 to average 27.64.

It was left to Margerison to get Brightlingsea over the line and claim the 7-5 victory, as he saw off the challenge of Bloomfield.

He won the first leg in 16 darts, with Bloomfield responding with a 16-dart leg.

Margerison then brought home the victory in 22 and 23 darts to win 3-1.
