TENDRING Volleyball Club's women's team suffered disappointment in the National Cup, losing 3-0 in their quarter-final at London Orcas.

A tight game was on the cards, with Frinton-based Tendring having won the previous meeting between the sides 3-2.

However, Orcas put Tendring’s serve reception unit under pressure and quickly took a 5-0 lead.

The rallies were long, with both teams fighting to keep the ball off the floor.

However, Orcas seemed to find the winning shot more often than the Tendring girls and raced to a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, Tendring looked to cut down on the error count and become more consistent.

Again, though, they made another slow start and were always chasing.

Intelligent hitting from Laura Hodgkinson helped the team gain some confidence and momentum, but Orcas took the second set for a 2-0 lead.

With a changed line-up and more noise, Tendring grew in confidence and belief as Rebecca Saunders rallied the girls to make a comeback.

Fran Smith-Daye and Chaniel Nelson helped the team put the pressure back on Orcas and the third set was much closer.

However, Tendring were unable to get out of one rotation and Orcas finished off the set for a 3-0 victory.

They now face a semi-final against Polonia.
