HOTSHOTS from Tendring Technology College took top honours at the annual Jack Petchey Essex regional singles competition, in partnership with Table Tennis England.

It was held at Batts Table Tennis Club, in Harlow.

The event brought together 52 players from 18 schools across Essex and all were playing for a chance to compete in the Jack Petchey London and Essex schools singles finals, being held at the University of East London on June 10.

All the events were run as a round robin-competition.

In the girls' under-16 category, Gracie Firkins beat Yaz Harvey 11-6, 11-6.

The boys' under-19 event was won by fellow TTC student Sam Hume.

The 16-year-old, who took the boys' under-16 title last year, beat Matt Laws 11-5, 11-6.

Twelve-year-old Harley Wood, from Clacton Coastal Academy, was runner-up in the girls' under-13 event after being beaten by Alana Mansfield 6-11, 8-11.

The Jack Petchey schools’ table tennis programme is aimed at increasing participation and awareness of table tennis in schools and youth clubs in London and Essex.
