CLACTON'S Jake Kofi Deemer-Evans smashed three under-19 British records at the Eastern Region Drug-Free Power Lifting Championships, in Basildon.
The 19-year-old also achieved three Eastern Counties records and has booked his place at the British National Championships, next March.
Deemer-Evans competed in the 18 and 19-year-old category in the 125kg weight class, at a bodyweight of 112.8kg.
He lifted a 200kg squat and a 150kg bench press to set two British records.
He then lifted 250kg to break the British deadlift record by 50kg, for a third British record.
In the process, he also achieved three Eastern Counties records.
"It was my second competition ever," he said.
"I last competed in July, at a lower bodyweight of 107kg, putting me in the 110kg class.
"I achieved four Eastern Counties records and matched the British record in the bench press of 145kg.
"Powerlifting requires a lot mentally as well as physically and I highly recommended it to anyone at any age.
"I work full-time, six days a week and train for two to three hours five days a week.
"I'm lucky to have a very supportive girlfriend and family which helps when things get hard towards a competition."
Deemer-Evans has been training for powerlifting for just over a year but been in the gym for almost three years.
He trains at the Iron Works gym, in Clacton.
