PHIL Smith of Windsor Eagles was the stand-out star this week in Clacton and District Table Tennis League division one.

In a performance described by one of his opponents as 'awesome', Smith powered to three wins in three-straight against Paul Meikle, Colin Dearman and Jason Gale to lead his side to a 6-4 victory over Walton B.

To cap an excellent evening, Smith and Gary Cattermole took the doubles 11-6, 13-11, 11-8 against Dearman and Gale.

Paul Meikle of Walton won two singles, 11-7 in the decider against Fred Button and 13-11 in the decider against Cattermole.

Leaders Nomads Panthers enjoyed a comfortable 9-1 success over Windsor Kestrels.

Gill Locke and Colin Webber took hat-tricks and the only blot on their copy-book was John Hatley's defeat at the hands of John Harvey.

Windsor Condors, 8-2 winners over Windsor Hawks, are emerging as the biggest threat to the Panthers.

Their dynamic duo, Greg Green and Colin Stallwood, again stayed unbeaten although Green had to battle hard before beating Andy Vincent 11-8 in the fifth.

Gavin Price was the only player to stay undefeated as Walton A overcame Windsor Owls, 8-2.

For the Owls, Frank Burbidge beat Paul Woolnough 11-9 in the fifth whilst Mark Salter edged out Graham Buxton by an identical score.

Nomads Lions took all three matches that went the distance to defeat luckless Lawford 9-1, with Paul Hume remaining unbeaten.

Adam Wilkin also took a treble although it was 11-8 in the fifth against Paul Hewitt and 11-6 in the fifth against Richard Spence.

In division two, Grant Sharpe, Stewart Murray and Graham Parkes of Brotherhood H had a straightforward 10-0 success over a weakened Nomads Jaguars.

And it was an equally comfortable 10-0 for Brotherhood I against Nomads Pumas, Scott Campbell recording a first maximum at this level.

Windsor Buzzards beat Brotherhood E 8-2, Ray Chillingworth taking an excellent three.

There were two each for Pete Bloomfield and Alan Rutledge but both fell foul of Duncan Dunne who took Brotherhood's two points.

Brotherhood F's Lawrence Torr picked up his hat-trick but Nomads Bobcats took a surprise 6-4 victory.

Jason Lloyd and Ethan Lloyd each won twice for the Bobcats while Andrew Cawley surprised Sandie Isaac, 16-14 in the fifth.

Division three leaders Nomads Wildcats were 8-2 winners against Windsor Ospreys, with Mike Wellum unbeaten. Windsor's Robbie Strutt enjoyed a notable 11-6 in the decider victory over Mike Hillier, as did Jordan Webb over Doug Green, 11-5 in the fifth.

Despite a well-deserved treble from Nomads Ocelots' Arthur Wells-Garrett, Walton D maintained their promotion interest with a 6-4 victory.

Jane Young and Daniel Young both took two for the victors.

Windsor Kites' remarkable run of form continued with a 9-1 win over Brotherhood J. Carl Hubbard and Chris Simson took trebles and Mick Simson two.

Brotherhood G shared the spoils with Nomads Lynx, with Paul Metcalf staying unbeaten.

Division three side Nomads Cougars have been forced to withdraw from the League.
