THE Clacton Superleague team finished as runners-up in the second East Anglia Invitational Cup held at Clacton Railway Club.

Superleague teams from both the Essex and Suffolk were in action, with Suffolk champions Leiston running out as the eventual winners.

Leiston put behind them the disappointment of narrowly getting knocked out in the group stage at the BDO Champions Cup the week before by Essex champions Southend by defeating East Anglia Cup holders Clacton to clinch the 2016 title.

In the round-robin stages, Leiston stormed their group with a 22-2 win over Colchester Town, followed by a 20-4 victory over Brightlingsea Regent.

Colchester Town and Brightlingsea Regent battled out a 12-12 draw in the other group game as Regent finished as runners-up.

Meanwhile in group two, Clacton topped the group.

They had a 16-8 victory over Brightlingsea, but then suffered a 14-10 defeat to Sudbury before winning the group with a 15-9 win over last year's runners-up Kelvedon.

Brightlingsea had 14-10 victories against Kelvedon and Sudbury Town to also move into the semi-finals as group runners-up.

In the first semi-final Brightlingsea, battled hard and took Leiston all the way to the last two games before the Suffolk champions clinched their place in the final with a 15-9 victory.

The second semi-final, saw Clacton replicate the same scoreline as they fought off Brightlingsea Regent 15-9 to book a second successive final appearance.

However, Leiston were dominant in the final as they produced some outstanding darts on their way to being crowned the East Anglia Invitation Cup Champions.
