CONDITIONS were very windy but dry when Frinton Golf Club's ladies played their fifth stableford and Windfall qualifier.

Joan Stevenson continued in fine form, coming out on top with the winning score of 33 points.

Yvonne Davies was just behind her with 32 points and Marie Ellis was in third place with 29 points.

At the Colchester Open at Braiswick, the Frinton team of Jan Wright, Jan McLellan, Margaret Dean and Helen Barr came third.

Ginny Richardson and her cousin Sally Cearns from Chigwell played in the Clacton Open and came second, while another Frinton winner was Tracey Taylor, who was nearest the pin on the fifth.

The ladies weren’t so lucky though in the McManus Trophy competition, though.

It is an annual even where the ladies take on the gents and this year it was a draw, but the men got to retain the trophy as they won it last year.

The recent seniors' away matches at Maldon and Colchester were both keenly contested with 4½-3½ results in both cases. A good win at Maldon was followed by a defeat at Colchester.

Charlie Dennis, Geoff Wiseman and Willie McMillan were winners on both occasions.

The WAGS Trophy was won by Malcolm King with 45 points, which was a great score considering the rough and windy conditions.

George Greenwood was second with 40 points and Shay Banim was in third place with 38 points.
