Clacton welcomed Stapleford Abbotts Golf Club to Clacton for a third-round match in the LF Wood Championship.

In the morning foursomes, the team of Colin Ross, Josh Bethell, Jordan Price, Simon Smith, Richard Hart, Adam Stringer, Brady Diplock, Clayton Jeffrey, John Herbert and Darrin Starling won all five matches and in the afternoon singles Clacton won 5½ matches, giving them a 10½-4½ win.

They now face a quarter-final match against Forester Park Golf Club on July 3.

The match will be played at Romford Golf Club.

Meanwhile, Clacton held a ladies' introduction to golf day.

Eight ladies attended and they were welcomed by club chairman Bert Foster, chief executive Terry McConnell, lady captain Gilly Cullen and club professional Michael Goodwin.

After a brief introduction, the ladies were taken on a tour of the club by a group of the club's lady players.

Some then tried their swings out with a seven iron.

Goodwin then took everyone over to the practice field, where the ladies were shown the basics of holding a club and hitting a ball off a tee peg.

This was cut short because of the weather but after a brief shower, the art of putting was introduced and a little competition held.

The overall feel of the day was fun but informative, with all eight ladies joining there and then.

A date for a group lesson was set up straight away and it is hoped these ladies will soon get a handicap and join in with the ladies' section soon.
