FRINTON Golf Club lady captain Angela Vaughan hosted her first major event of the year - the Ladies' Spring Meeting.

In the morning competition, an individual stableford, Michelle Lawton came out on top with 35 points.

Caroline Gard was second, with 32, and Jane Quick finished third, with 31.

Over on the Kirby course, Jan Harrison was the winner with 31 points.

Patricia Freear was second, with 30, and Jean Spencer took third, with 28.

The afternoon ten-hole Texas Scramble was won by the team of Joan Stevenson, Barbara Thorpe, vice-captain Marilyn Clarke and Diane Gerrard, with a nett 31.9.

The men vied for the Veterans' Cup - an 18-hole stableford for over 60 members, with a handicap limit of 24.

Philip Thornton won the trophy with 39 points.

Kevin Maleary was in second place with 37.

Jake Wells won the stableford with a very impressive 45 points off a nine handicap and Hamish Stubbs came second with 40 points, off a four handicap.

The ladies' bronze team played Three Rivers at home, winning 5/2.

Tracey Taylor went through to the third round of the silver county knockout competition, winning three-up against Colchester Playgolf.

The match was played at home.

Frinton's seniors were successful in their two recent matches.

The first was a 5½-2½ win at home against Maldon.

This included an outstanding win by the maximum margin possible for the pairing of Bill Smith and Mike Wright.

For the second match, Friday the 13th proved to be a lucky day when Frinton won 4½-3½ at Braintree away.

This included a good win of five and four for Malcolm King and Simon Parkes.

The Poker Circle played their spring event on Saturday.

It was a four ball better ball played in blustery conditions.

Frank Thorpe and Chris Taylor prevailed, winning with a very respectable 43 points.

Alan Bradshaw and Bryn Mickleburgh finished second with 41.

Frinton played their annual match against Ipswich on Sunday, at Purdis Heath.

In a close match, they won it 4½-3½.
