RYAN Chamberlain’s 91 not out saw Clacton chase 206 to beat Lakenheath, in Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two on Saturday.

The Seasiders bowled first and almost made an immediate breakthrough, with Lewis Kirk having Frank Gammon dropped at slip from the second ball of the match.

Kirk did strike first, though, bowling Paul Pallant with the score on 31.

Shane Leech was next to go, after a partnership of 47 with Gammon, edging to Bradley Pitts, who took a good catch above his head.

Michael Reeve and Gammon continued the good work of the top order until the introduction of spin saw a couple of quick wickets fall.

Chamberlain had Reeve caught and bowled off a full toss, before Imran Sheikh had Danny Rodic caught at mid-on with another full toss.

Gammon’s anchor innings was over soon after, bowled by Sheikh trying to run the ball to third man.

Clacton’s fielding let them down, not for the first time this season, allowing the lower order to get Lakenheath over 200. Kirk eventually had Stephen Tassell caught at mid-wicket off a slower ball and Scott Facey had Tim Milner caught at long off to claim four bowling points.

Clacton's chase got off to a flying start, with Sheikh and Facey putting on 46 in five overs.

Facey hit five consecutive boundaries off Sam Bowers' second over.

Facey was out, bowled by Milner for 39, including seven fours, with the score on 91 in the 12th over.

Brad Turner and Chamberlain continued to score freely, adding 58 for the third wicket before Turner (33) was caught at deep square leg trying for his second maximum of the day.

Ashan Athukoralage came and went, which left Kirk and Chamberlain to see the Seasiders home.

Kirk finished on 21 not out while Chamberlain hit two sixes to win the match and finish on 91 not out from 79 deliveries.

On Saturday, Clacton travel to Elmstead Grasshoppers (1pm start).
