QUEENS Arms have been crowned Dennis Bloomfield Cup winners after a 2-1 victory against Clacton and District Sunday League rivals Coastal Rangers.

The match took place at FC Clacton’s Rush Green Bowl.

Queens took the lead from a Ben Perryman header.

However, Coastal equalised after a mix-up in the Queens’ defence.

Midfielders Ben Saunders, Billy Wales and Jamie Duffus worked tirelessly and the front three of Spencer Newland, Ben Perryman and Stephen Pridmore cause no end of problems for the Coastal defence.

One-one at the break was a fair reflection and both sides came out feeling they could pinch it in the second period.

Queens defended solidly through Dan Baldwin, Tom McMahon, Charlie Pridmore and Sam Jefferyes and the game was won when Perryman beat two men before curling the ball round the keeper from 15 yards.

Coastal rattled the bar in the last ten minutes, before Duffus had to clear the ball in the six-yard box.

However, in the end, Queens saw the game out with a fine team display.

It was a fairly-contested game in which both teams battled well and represented themselves with distinction.

Mick Hemstead, from the league, introduced Margaret Bloomfield to present the medals, on behalf of her late husband, Dennis, who had been a long-serving secretary of the Clacton and District Sunday League.

Queens captain Jamie Duffus collected the shield on his team’s behalf.
